I recently had laser treatment performed on the backs of my knees. Years of working on my feet in the operating room coupled with two pregnancies and… ugh…middle age had created a very detailed road map on my skin which could have been the envy of GPS systems everywhere! I was not about to spend a Texas summer wearing long pants!
Admittedly, I have an inside track on all things cosmetic. I knew that I needed laser treatment performed on my legs. The Candela Gentle YAG laser that we use in the office is great for spider veins and small diameter visible veins. There were two things about this laser that I really appreciated:
- The Candela Gentle YAG laser is designed to work on darker/suntanned skin tones. Since I spend a lot of time outdoors, this fact gave me a lot of confidence. I definitely did not want to risk trading one unsightly mess for another by risking skin discoloration or scarring from using a laser not designed for darker skin.
- The laser has a cryogen cooling system that blasts the skin with a wonderful cooling sensation in conjunction with the laser pulse. This added bonus, in addition to the topical anesthetic made my treatment oh, so comfortable!
Erin Campbell, our Medical Aesthetician applied an anesthetic cream to my skin. The laser treatment took only minutes to perform. It took about a week or so for the full effects to be seen. I still have a slightly visible vein showing which will take one more treatment to clear up, which is common with larger spider veins. The results are stunning and fast!
In a perfect world, I would be able to get the rest of my body beach-ready just as easy as I got rid of my spider veins. Oh, well. I guess I will just keep waiting for a miracle laser to tone my muscles!
